Innehåll | What is our relationship to nature? Who are we and who is nature? In this course we will be discussing our relationships to nature and matter through philosophy and literature. Western philosophy has tended to make a strong distinction between nature as an object and the human being as subject. However, today certain philosophical and literary movements are paying more attention to the porous boundaries between object and subject, animal and human, and nature and artifice. Within this course we will use literature passages and short-stories as well as post-humanist philosophy, and ethics such as the works of Jane Bennet, Donna Haraway, and Emmanuel Levinas, to take a closer look at the boundaries between these seemingly opposing concepts and our ethical responsibility towards the more-than-human. |
Arbetssätt | The course consists out of a lecture part and an interactive discussion of the theorists using different pieces of literature. The course does not require earlier studies in philosophy. |
Litteratur | Kafka's metamorphosis and Moominpappa at Sea. |
